Holistic Approach to Osteopathy

Comprehensive Case History Assessment
Greenwich Osteopaths’ Approach to Treatment

Comprehensive Case History Assessment
Before treatment begins, the osteopath will take a detailed case history. This includes discussing your symptoms, their onset, any changes over time, and factors that may contribute to the condition. Lifestyle, general health, medications, and medical history are also considered to form a holistic understanding of your health.

Physical Examination & Diagnosis
A thorough physical assessment follows, during which the osteopath will evaluate posture, spinal and joint movement, muscle tone, and joint function. If necessary, additional tests such as reflex assessments or blood pressure checks may be conducted. Once a diagnosis is made, the osteopath will discuss the findings with you before commencing treatment.

Tailored Treatment Techniques
Each patient receives a personalised treatment plan that may include a combination of:
• Joint Manipulation & Articulation – Traditional osteopathic methods such as joint mobilisation and spinal adjustments.
• Massage & Soft Tissue Techniques – To relieve muscle tension and improve circulation.
• Cranio-Sacral & Functional Techniques – Subtle, hands-on methods to enhance body function.
• Ultrasound Therapy – Used when appropriate to support healing and pain relief.
Additionally, lifestyle advice on exercise, ergonomics, nutrition, and daily habits may be provided to complement treatment.
Treatment Programmes
The number of sessions required varies based on individual needs and conditions:
2-3 sessions for most complaints.
Moderate Conditions: 3-6 visits are sometimes necessary:
Chronic & Long-Term Management: Ongoing care for conditions like osteoarthritis, with many patients benefiting from regular “maintenance” treatments to optimise overall function.

Comfort & Patient Consideration
Patients are typically asked to dress down to their underwear for assessments and treatment. However, your comfort is paramount andwe can always work around this if required.
